Welcome to the School of EECS

I am pleased to welcome you to the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. The School of EECS is an important part of UCF's College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS). I invite you to browse through the EECS pages to learn about our esteemed faculty, award-winning students, outstanding academic programs and high-tech, groundbreaking research.

The School of EECS offers Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Computer Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and a Bachelors degree in Information Technology.

Research in EECS is conducted via our many Labs and Centers. We invite you to browse through our research pages and discover the breadth and depth of our research programs. With at least five new faculty members on board to join EECS in Fall 2006, our research activities and funding continue to expand.

We pride ourselves on our research, scholarship and publications, producing 2.3 journal publications and 3.5 conference publications per full-time faculty member and a graduate rate of 0.6 Ph.D. students per full-time faculty during the past academic year. During this period, our research funding reached more than $6 million in research grants from Federal, State and Industry sources.

In Fall 2005, EECS undergraduate enrollment in our four BS degree programs was 2,009 students. EECS graduate enrollment in our Masters programs is 214 students and the Doctorate programs reached an enrollment of 292 students. UCF enrollment for the Fall 2005 semester reached its highest number ever at 45,090 students.

Our students are taught by and conduct research with our 23 full professors, 17 associate professors, 12 assistant professors and 15 full-time lecturers and visiting faculty. We have 16 joint faculty members, who bring expertise and experience to EECS from such UCF programs as College of Optics & Photonics and its CREOL center, Nanotechnology, Physics, Institute of Simulation and Training, Florida Space Institute and Florida Solar Energy Center. We have 11 IEEE Fellows among our faculty members, which is among the most prestigious and competitive awards given by any professional society. We also have 3 SPIE Fellows and one ACM Fellow.

This summer, EECS will move into the new Harris Corporation Engineering Center - a remarkable building with state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment made possible through a generous donation from Harris Corp. The Harris Corp. Engineering Center will provide educational and research laboratories, offices for faculty and support personnel, ample space for student support services, including advising for undergraduate and graduate students, plus collaborative research and work areas, technical demonstration facilities, seminar rooms and classrooms.

The new building will help alleviate the space shortage in the School for a longer period and allows the School of EECS to upgrade student support services, research laboratories as well as facilitate student and faculty interaction and advanced research. Please visit the following link for more information on our the Harris Corporate Engineering Center.

EECS Associate Director Dr. Mark Heinrich and I hope you will frequently visit our Web site, which is undergoing many updates and changes as we continue to expand our site after the School's creation in Sept. 2005. You will continue to find additions on the latest news and events for the School of EECS.

Best Regards,

Issa Batarseh
Director, School of EECS
